CATIA V5 Tutorial #7 | V-Block

In this step-by-step tutorial, we will be learning how to create a v-block in CATIA V5. Some notable commands are Profile, Constraint, Mirror, and Pad. The Part Design and Sketcher Workbenches will be used to create the 3D CAD model. A 2D engineering drawing and video is included at the end of this blog post, you can also check your model by comparing the part volume.

Level = Beginner
Quick Notes = All dimensions are in inches.
Part Volume:
V-Block = 114.65625 in3


  1. Start by creating a new CATPart.
    Click File > New… New icon > Select Part in the dialog box and click OK. Confirm that the Part Design Part design icon Workbench is active.


  2. Click Sketch Sketch icon and select the yz plane.

  3. Click Axis Axis icon and create a vertical axis line with a coincidence constraint to the VDirection.

  4. Click Profile Profile icon and sketch the profile (as shown).

  5. Click Constraint Constraint icon to apply a constraint to the sketch, apply and set the values (as shown).

  6. Left click and hold to select the geometry and constraints. Click Mirror Mirror icon then select the axis.

  7. Click Line Line icon to create a line to close the profile.

  8. Exit Workbench Exit workbench icon and click Pad Pad icon, set the parameters (as shown) and then click OK.

  9. Completed!
